How It Works
Butyrate modulates responses of gastrointestinal health through its role as a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor and binds to several specific G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). By inhibiting HDAC activity, butyrate promotes acetylation of histone proteins leading to the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis related to the gut-barrier function.
